History Major

Complete all institutional graduation requirements.
History requires a minimum of 60 credits to complete the major. A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course counting towards the major and a cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required for completion of the major. S/U courses may not be elected for program requirements.
NOTE: It is IMPERATIVE that students planning to teach consult with Education advisers as early as possible. ED 142 - Education Orientation (1) is strongly recommended. Students planning to teach in secondary must have a BA/BS in an appropriate content area and may earn licensure through the MAT program. History majors are advised to obtain additional breadth in the social sciences to prepare for the current State Mandated Content Examination and to be prepared to teach the social studies courses offered in Oregon’s high schools which include U.S. History, government, world civilization, and economics.

Lower Division Required Courses: 15 credits
Complete 15 credits from the following courses:
Required Core Courses: 10 credits
Upper Division Required Courses: 35 credits
Complete a minimum of 10 credit hours in each group, equaling 35 credits total

Group III: Western, Comparative, Thematic History:
